Strengthening Women’s Rights

Promoting women's health, rights and the prevention of domestic violence in Mesoamerica.

A group of people participating in the Horizon of Friendship’s Strengthening Women’s Rights project.

Cause Summary

Women are essential to development around the globe. Vital to society, women have roles as caregivers and teachers, in agriculture and the workforce, and have the largest responsibility when it comes to family planning. We cannot begin to have a just and peaceful world without the support of women. In Central America and Mexico however, women still face many forms of oppression. From gender-based violence and inadequate healthcare to being unable to receive an education or being forced to enter the workforce at a young age, these are all factors that keep communities in poverty.

Horizons understands that to decrease poverty in Central America and Mexico, we need to empower women and give them tools to create sustainable communities. Horizons continue to support women-centered projects that focus on providing education, promoting sexual and reproductive health, enhancing knowledge and skills, and promoting women’s well-being.
